Teen Show Choir combines choral singing with dynamic movement and choreography to create high-energy performances. Shows are built around a theme or storyline and typically run 10–25 minutes, giving performers the chance to sharpen both their vocal technique and stagecraft in a supportive, ensemble-driven setting.

Teen performers will focus on more advanced skills like vocal blend and harmony, musical interpretation, choreographic precision, and strong stage presence. Along the way, they’ll build confidence as performers, practice collaboration and leadership within a team, and develop the discipline and time-management needed to rehearse and deliver a polished final product. This is a creative, challenging space to grow as a singer, dancer, and storyteller.

Alyssa Anaya and Marisa Lucero

Alyssa Anaya earned her Bachelor's in Music in Vocal Performance from the University of New Mexico in 1999. While at UNM she studied with Leslie Umphrey, Bradley Ellingboe and Marilynn Tyler. Mrs. Anaya earned her Music Education Certification in 2001, and has been a licensed music teacher with the state of New Mexico since 2002. Alyssa has performed in several operas, zarsuelas, choral masterworks, and as a soloist. Alyssa has been the featured soprano and alto soloist for St. Thomas Aquinas Parish since 2003. She was also the soprano soloist for Immanuel Presbyterian Church in Albuquerque. She has performed with Polyphony, Las Cantantes and Coro Lux. In December of 2021, she earned her Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from New Mexico Highlands University.

With 17 years in education, Marisa is a passionate special education teacher and reading specialist who believes in helping every child discover their confidence, voice, and unique strengths. Her heart for teaching is deeply connected to her lifelong love of the arts.

She began playing the violin at a young age and went on to study voice and acting, nurturing a love for music, movement, and storytelling that has shaped her both personally and professionally. Over the years, she has performed with various theater companies throughout Albuquerque, finding joy and connection through the power of live performance.

As a proud mother of two sons, Marisa treasures sharing her love of music, dance, and theater at home. What began as a childhood passion has grown into a calling — one she now joyfully shares with her family and the many young performers she mentors.

Marisa is honored to be part of the Cardboard Playhouse family, where she serves as choreographer for the show choir alongside her dear friend and fellow performer, Alyssa Anaya. She is continually inspired by Cardboard’s commitment to growing the arts within the Albuquerque community. For Marisa, show choir is more than rehearsal and performance — it is a place where students can refine their skills, build lasting friendships, and grow into confident, expressive young people who love to sing, dance, and shine.
